The discussion around this exchange was the most interesting part of the conversation, using the example that the locally right thing to do with a profitable snowboard company would not have been to pivot it into an ecomm platform.
Parrish: “Could you actually go so far as to [take the position that] if there is a solution that’s observable and you’re being pulled towards that, it’s probably not the optimal solution?”
Lutke: “Yes, I take that position […and…] this goes doubly and triply if one of the solutions also happens to really correlate to how the problem is solved, most of the time, in the industry.” (He goes on to observe that in cases where the solution is regulated - e.g. re: payments - this position doesn’t hold.)
